The Curry Rice Futon was created by 24-year-old Japanese web-designer Junko Shimizu for the Tama Art Festival in Tokyo in 2007. It was later on exhibition at the 2007 Design Festa, an art event held biannually in Tokyo and the biggest of its kind in Asia.
